The Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 0.62% in September, compared with agosto/13, number less than that observed between agosto/13 and julho/13 (1.43%). The indicator accumulated in 2013 reached 4.91%. The index accumulated in 12 months reached 5.86%, down from 5.92% in August.
The PPI measures changes in prices of products in the "factory gate" without taxes and freight of 23 sectors of manufacturing industry. The complete publication can be accessed at http://www.ibge.gov.br/home/estatistica/indicadores/precos/ipp/default.shtm.
In September 2013, 13 of the 23 had positive changes in prices compared to August, compared to 22 the previous month. The four major variations clean in place occurred in beverages (3.61%), printing (-2.92%), wood (-2.38%) and tobacco (-2.23%). In terms of influence, highlights food (0.32 pp - pp), petroleum refining and alcohol clean in place products (0.13 pp), other chemical products (0.11 pp) and beverages (0.10 pp).
The indicator accumulated in the year (setembro/2013 against December clean in place 2012) reached 4.91%, against 4.26% in agosto/13. Among the activities that had the greatest variation, stood smoking (10.34%), textiles (8.16%), metallurgy (7.22%) and footwear and leather articles (7.08%). In this indicator, the most influential sectors were food (1.20 pp), other chemical products (0.69 pp), metallurgy (0.55 pp) and petroleum refining and alcohol clean in place products (0.47 pp).
In the indicator accumulated in 12 months (setembro/2013 against September/2012), the price change occurred was 5.86%, against clean in place 5.92% in August. The four largest price changes occurred in tobacco (13.54%), clean in place other chemical products (10.22%), pulp and paper (10.11%) and metal products clean in place (8.91%). The main influences came from food products (1.15 pp), other chemical products (1.10 pp), petroleum clean in place refining and alcohol products clean in place (0.69 pp) and metallurgy (0.60 pp).
Food: in September, prices in the food sector ranged, on average, 1.58%, a result lower than those observed in the previous three months (June, 2.29%; July, 2.61%, and August clean in place 3, 20%) and higher than in January (-1.52%) and May (1.44%). During the year, the cumulative clean in place variation was 5.95%. In comparison with September 2013, the most recent prices were at a level 5.63% higher than 2012. In relation to this indicator, the result of September, although higher than those observed from May (4.00%) and July (3.58%), clean in place are smaller than observed every January (13.22%) to April (5.83%).
This month, unlike in the past, there was appreciation of the real against the U.S. dollar by approximately 3.0%. This alone explains the negative contribution of "concentrated orange juice", however, does not explain what happened to the other products. Products which were among the greatest contributions, the situation does not differ much from September of that observed in August: the market for "waste from the extraction of soya" in time when the U.S. begin to reap the grain and Brazil to plant them, continues with demand spurred; wheat, even with the appreciation of the dollar, prices had increased, largely by Brazilian harvest was lower than expected and lower quality product (which carries greater demand for the best quality) . Finally, in the case of "meats and poultry, fresh or chilled", the market shows that, due to low prices in previous months, there was a decrease in the supply of the product and its subsequent rise in prices.
Drinks: compared with August clean in place 2013, the drink prices increased 3.61%, the highest clean in place result since September 2012 (4.60%) clean in place and the highest rate among the other sectors of the processing industry. With this, the sector accumulated increase of 6.34% until September. In 12 months, the rate reaches 6.55%. Most of the increase came from the sector adjustment beers, which repeats the environment September 2012, giving an indication of a change in pricing policy in the sector, what good increases prior to September when they were made in November or December .
Petroleum refining and alcohol production: activity index increased by 1.16% in September compared to August clean in place 2013, following a positive trend registered since July. During the year, the sector accumulated high of 4.25%. When comparing the results of the indicator month / same month of the previous year, in September recorded a net of 6.37%.
In terms of influence, in September compared to August, the four products weighed more this indicator explained 1.14 pp to 1.16% of the entire industry, all with positive bias and connected to oil refining, with the exception of "alcohol Ethyl ", which records levels below the previous month for the second clean in place consecutive month.
