Sometimes it feels good to be surprised by a film that, at the outset, little or nothing is expected of them. I speak of "White Lightnin '(2009), debutant director Dominic Murphy. Among all influential, all the big names in Blues guitar, this guy has a guaranteed place. Little remembered among bluesman, when you hear the nervous guitar the best thing since sliced bread Hopkins first one has a sense of transcendence, because there was a guy way ahead of his time.
Born in Texas in 1912, Samuel John Hopkins discovered what he had to do at the age of ten, Blind Lemon Jefferson to attend a presentation, even before this record for the first time. Jefferson was then the greatest blues singer of the time, and was the father of Texas Blues. Impressed with the stunning sound, and unable to hide all the excitement, Hopkins drew the attention of Jefferson, even though this is blind. And gave the advice that would change the course of bluesy guitar. "The Blues Accordin 'to Lightnin' Hopkins" is a documentary of 30 min. the recently deceased director Les Blank (1935-2013) about the legendary blues guitarist Lightnin Hopkins (Sam John Hopkins), released in 1969.
